Display Energy Certificates


Elmhurst Energy Services
Since October 2008 all public buildings with a floor area exceeding 1,000m2 require a Display Energy Certificate (DEC). This certificate publicly displays the energy efficiency consumption of the building using the standard A-G energy rating scale.

Public buildings can vary considerably, DECs are likelyto be required in:
  • Libraries
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Museums
  • Leisure Centres
  • Offices and many more...


The DEC is beneficial for a public building as it comes with recommendations for improvements on energy efficiency i.e. adding thermostatic controls, improving building energy management, education of staff, options and guidance for renewable energy sources.
